New Notary Law Begins Oct. 26

by PAN
On October 26, the new notary public law, officially known as the Revised Uniform Law on Notarial Acts (RULONA) will be in effect.

What does this mean for you, a Pennsylvania notary?

You will have a new notary act, witnessing or attesting a signature, which may make fulfilling your notarial duties much easier, and new education mandates.

All notaries will be required to take a three-hour education course, either live or online. First-time notaries will have to complete and pass an examination. Renewing notaries are not required to take the examination, unless they have a lapse in their commissions (even just one day).

Upon reappointment, the information on your notary stamp will change. Your register will be referred to as a journal and will include additional information that needs to be recorded for each notarization.

An affidavit becomes known as a verification on oath or affirmation. Additionally, conflicts of interest for notaries are spelled out by the law.

PAN is here to help. If you haven't already, please download a copy of our RULONA white paper at notaryne.ws/RULONA or check out our RULONA Overview Course available in the Member Portal. Both are free.

Feel free to call our Customer Service Department with any questions you may have at 800-944-8790, go online at www.notary.org with Live Help or E-mail us at [email protected].
