Sending Problem Documents to PAN? Check for Sensitive Information First
The document your customer puts in front of you is very confusing. Is it an affidavit or an acknowledgment? Where is the venue? Where should the customer sign?
If you are a PAN member, you know that you have access to resources that will help you notarize problem documents. You can e-mail the document or fax it to PAN at 800-707-7075. Our Customer Service staff will make sure that you take the right steps to properly notarize the document.
We are happy to assist our members in working with problem documents. We do, however, strongly recommend that you redact, or block out, any of your customer’s personal identifying information—such as Social Security Numbers, account numbers, or driver’s license numbers—to make it unreadable before sending the form to PAN.
“We enforce a strict information security policy in the office,” PAN President Marc Aronson said. “While we know our employees are trustworthy, you never know what other people might do with private information. Suppose you mistyped the e-mail address, or faxed the form to the wrong number. It’s really not a good idea to expose your customer’s personal information to a risk like that.”
