Disciplinary Actions - November-December 2018
Three notaries in three counties were disciplined by the Department of State for violations against the notary public law.
Dauphin County
A notary from Harrisburg was suspended for six months, which was stayed in favor of probation, because she failed to require pesonal appearance, failed to keep and maintain custody of an accurate chronological register of all official acts and failed to be familiar with the duties of a notary public. She was ordered to attend a six-hour notary edcuation course and pay an assessment fee of $300.
Fayette County
A Grindstone notary was suspended for six months, which was stayed in favor of probation, because she failed to require personal appearance, charged fees for notary services in excess of those set by the Acting Secretary of the Commonwealth, and failed to be familiar with the duties of a notary public. She was ordered to attend a six-hour notary education course and pay a civil penalty of $250 and an assessment fee of $300.
Philadelphia County
A notary from Philadelphia had her commission revoked because she failed to complete the commission process. She did not take the oath of office, give a surety bond and record the bond, commission and oath of office in the recorder of deeds office, and she did not include essential notary language on documents she notarized. She failed to be familiar with the duties and responsibilities and failed to have the required ability to hold the office of notary public.
