Don't Fall for This Spoofing Tactic
If you receive an email stating that your PAN membership has been deactivated, don't worry. It has not been deactivated. The email came from a site in Mumbai.
One PAN member received just such an email. The manager of our IT Department said this was a "spoof attempt."
Email spoofing is the forgery of an email header so that the message appears to have originated from someone or somewhere other than the actual source. Email spoofing is a tactic used in phishing and spam campaigns because people are more likely to open an email when they think it has been sent by a legitimate source.
If you believe you have received an email spoof attempt, do not click on any links in the email.
And just so you know, PAN never "deactivates" a membership.
