Introducing Pennsylvania's New Secretary of State

Kathy Boockvar is Pennsylvania's new Secretary of State, replacing Acting Secretary Robert Torres. 

An attorney with an extensive background in public interest law and policy, election administration, and nonprofit healthcare administration, Boockvar served as a senior adviser to Gov. Tom Wolfe on election modernization, overseeing the governor's initiative to replace all the voting machines with voter-verified paper trail machines by the 2020 primary election. 

For many years, she worked as a voting rights attorney and poll worker, gaining extensive knowledge and experience with state and federal election law and regulations, as well as local and county-level practices and procedures in Pennsylvania. Boockvar also served as Chief Counsel for the Pennsylvania Auditor General, overseeing legal and interagency matters. 

Most recently, Boockvar served as Executive Director of Lifecycle WomanCare, one of the oldest continually operating birth centers in the U.S. She led and oversaw operations, management, and policies of the non-profit women's healthcare organization, established key partnerships with physicians, hospitals, and other organizations, and expanded services and programs. 

Boockvar was the recipient of the Smart CEO Brava Award in 2017, which honors high-impact female business leaders. She has also been a volunteer attorney with Wills for Heroes since 2012, providng essential legal documents free of charge to first responders. 

A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and the American University, Washington College of Law, Boockvar received a Performance Leadership Certificate from Cornell University in 2014 and is a member of the Bar of the U.S. Supreme Court, Third Circuit Court of Appeals, U.S.District Courts, and Pennsylvania, New York, and Washington D.C. courts. 

Boockvar lives in Bucks County with her husband and daughter.
