Watch Where You're Going for PennDOT Online Services

by PAN
Pittsburgh television station WTAE reported the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is increasingly aware of deceptive Web sites that appear to provide online motor vehicle and driver licensing services. These sites are not affiliated with the department and do not provide PennDOT services.

Customers who use a search engine such as Google or Internet Explorer to locate PennDOT's Web site may click on search results that lead to very different Web sites. Usually, these sites are listed as paid advertisers at the top of the seach results. Because the sites look and feel like official sites, customers think they've found the right place to renew a driver's license or vehicle registration.

Instead of searching, customers shold type PennDOT's official Web address, www.dmv.pa.gov, directly into their browser. A former PennDOT Web address, www.dmv.state.pa.us, also automatically redirects customers to the correct site.

Also, watch for text and graphics that indicate the site is not for official use, or disclaimers that state the site is not affiliated with any government agency.

New Fax Number for Extending Temporary Registration

PennDOT has a new fax number for issuing agents to use when requesting authorization to extend a temporary registration card.

The new fax number is:  717-265-7591.

The article, "Extending Temporary Registration Credentials" on page 15 in the November-December 2015 Notary Notes describes the procedure for requesting an extention.
