Five notaries in five counties were cited by the Department of State for violations against the notary public law.
Bradford County
A notary in Athens had her commission suspended, which was stayed in favor of probation, for failing to maintain an accurate notary register (journal) by not recording the date of the notary act and the character of the act. She was ordered to successfully complete a six-hour notary education course and pay a probation assessment fee of $150.
Bucks County
A Southampton notary had her notary commission revoked for failing to place her notary seal in a manner capable of hotographic reproduction. She also failed to keep and maintain custody and control of a chronological register and failed to indicate each notarization separately.
Monroe County
An East Stroudsburg notary permanently and voluntarily surrendered her notary commission because she failed to disclose her 2009 guilty plea, failed to maintain an accurate notary register (journal) by not recording the characters of the act, dates of the notary act, amounts of the fees collected for each notarization she completed.
Pike County
A notary from Mitlord permanently and voluntarily surrendered his notary commission because he was convicted of grand larceny in the third degree (a felony) in the State of New York.
Washington County
A Hickory notary had her notary commission suspended for six months, which was stayed in favor of probation, for notarizing a vehicle title transfer without the seller's personal appearance. She failed to maintain an accurate notary register (journal) by not recording the character of the act and failing to indicate each notarization separately. She also charged fees in excess of the fees fixed by the Secretary of State. The notary must successfully complete a six-hour notary education course and pay a civil penalty of $500 and probation assessment fees of $300.
