When Your Stamp or Journal is Lost or Stolen

by PAN
What should you do if your notary stamp or journal is lost or stolen?

According to the notary public law, you must inform the Department of State in writing or electronically within 10 days after discovering that your equipment was lost or stolen.

The notification should include an explanation of how the notary stamp or journal became lost or stolen; the date you discovered the item was missing and that you do not know where your notary stamp or journal is located or who possesses it.

If you locate your lost or stolen notary stamp or journal, you must file a written statement with the Department of State within 10 days on how you reacquired your equipment.

Remember:  it is your responsibility to keep your notary stamp and journal secure when not in use.
