Disciplinary Actions - July-August 2016
Four notaries in three counties were disciplined recently by the Department of State.
Centre County
A State College notary had his notary commission suspended for six months, but was stayed in favor of probation for failing to keep and maintain custody of an accurate chronological register. He was ordered to successfully complete a sixhour notary education course, pay a civil penalty of $250 and pay probation assessment fees of $300.
Philadelphia County
A notary from Philadelphia permanently and voluntarily surrendered her notary commission because she failed to maintain custody of an accurate chronological register. A second notary from Philadelphia had his notary commission suspended for 12 months, but was stayed in favor of probation for failing to impose the proper notary fees. He also failed to keep an accurate chronological register. He was ordered to successfully complete a six-hour notary education course, pay a civil penalty of $500 and pay $600 in probation assessment fees.
Wyoming County
A Mehoopany notary permanently and voluntarily surrendered her notary commission because she failed to keep and maintain an accurate chronological register of all official notary acts performed.
