A RULONA Compliant Checklist
Here's a handy checklist for you to follow to make sure you are compliant with the nw notary law (RULONA).
1. You know a RULONA-compliant journal makes entering all the mandated entries easier and you are using one now.
2. You know there is a change in the notary wording for verification on oath or affirmation (affidavit): Signed and sworn to (or affirmed) before me on _____ (date) by ________ (name(s) of individual(s) making statement.
3. You know there is a change in the notary wording for an individual acknowledgment: This record was acknowledged before me on _______ (date) by ______________ (name(s) of individual(s).
4. You know there is a change in the notary wording for a certified or attested copy or deposition: I certify that this is a true and correct copy of a _________________ in the possession of ________________ dated ______________.
5. You know the notary wording for an oath or affirmation: Do you (name of individual) swear that the statement you are about to give is the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth, so help you God? Do you (name of individual) affirm that the statement you are about to give is the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth?
6. You know about the new notary act - witnessing or attesting a signature: Signed (or attested) before me on ________ (date) by _______ (name(s) of individual(s).
7. You know there is a state-approved list of identification you can accept from a customer you do not know personally.
8. You know that if you charge fees, you must post your notary fees or provide your customers with a printed list of your notary fees.
9. You know that if you charge clerical or administrative fees, you must include them in your journal.
10. You know that if you charge your customer a notary fee and/or clerical and administrative fees, you must provide the customer with an itemized receipt.
11. You know you cannot notarize your own signature.
