PAN Member Now an E-Notary
Kathleen Curtis knew there was a need for a local notary in her hometown in 2005. Fast forward 13 years and Kathleen is not only a PennDOT motor vehicle agent and certified signing agent, she is now an electronic notary.
"My goal was to be available when it was convenient for my customers," said Kathleen, who owns Otto Notary Service in Duke Center, McKean County. "And I am. I've had appointments as early as 6 a.m. and I've even met with a customer at midnight."
She's willing to travel all over the Northwestern and Central Pennsylvania region, throughout McKean, Potter, Warren, Elk and Cameron counties.
"Work hours vary for many individuals," Kathleen added. "I saw a need for being mobile and traveling to shut-ins and older individuals in the community who can't make it into my office. And I love that I can help them out."
Kathleen was thrilled when she received her electronic notary approval letter from the Pennsylvania Department of State. After selecting an electronic notary solution provider, she can now serve as an e-notary in all 67 Pennsylvania counties until the end of her current commission in 2021.
"The main reason to become an e-notary is to perform electronic mortgage and refinance closings," she said. "I thought it would expand the signing agent portion of my notary business."
Although she has not had the opportunity to perform any e-notarizations yet, she is looking forward to it. Kathleen will determine whether to renew as an e-notary, after seeing how many electronic closings she performs by the end of her current notary commission.
"I really love my profession," she exclaimed. "Thank you PAN for all you do for notaries throughout Pennsylvania."
