Education Required for Renewing Notaries

by PAN

When the new notary law was instituted in 2017, the education requirement for renewing notaries changed. Now, all notaries are required to successfully complete three hours of notary education. This includes individuals who were exempt from education because they were notaries on July 1, 2003.

Education can take the form of a live seminar, such as PAN's Notary Reappointment Seminar or PAN's Notary Public Basic Education Online.

Renewing notaries who allow their commissions to lapse (even just one day) or do not get sworn into office within 45 days from the date their new commission begins, will be required to take the Pearson VUE notary test. The test is conducted at a Pearson VUE computer-based facilitiy at the cost of $65. This cost is not part of a PAN membership.

It's important for PAN members to keep us up-to-date with their mailing and E-mail addresses so our reappointment reminders will reach them. PAN begins sending out reappointment reminders 10 months prior to each member's commission expiration. If you have a change in mail or E-mail address, please let us know by calling 1-800-944-8790 or E-mailing [email protected]

Remember, if you are reappointed on time, you will not have to take the Pearson VUE test.
