Documentary Fee Rises in 2019
The maximum documentary fee vehicle dealers are permitted to charge was raised for 2019, to $120 for processing titlework manually and to $144 for performing online transactions with an online provider.
The documentary fee, or “doc fee,” is a non-taxable, dealer-imposed, negotiable charge for the preparation of paperwork, the collection and submission of taxes, and the preparation of any other information associated with titling and registering a vehicle.
Act 77 of 2008 specified that beginning in January 2010, and annually thereafter, the documentary fee would be adjusted in accordance with the Federal Consumer Price Index.
